Kidnapping in Colombia: A Blow to the French Foreign Legion's Reputation?
The kidnapping of Jose Olger Melo Charry, a French Colombian soldier from the elite French Foreign Legion, has raised concerns about the safety and security of Western military personnel operating in conflict zones.
Charry was taken hostage by dissident FARC guerrillas on August 6. The Estado Mayor Central (EMC), led by Ivan Mordisco, one of Colombia's most wanted guerrillas, is believed to be behind the kidnapping.
